Fishing Is a Family Activity

Many people love to go fishing, as opposed to playing tennis or golf. Others make it their primary sporting activity together with their families and friends, as a means to relieve boredom and stress. Surveys suggest more than 50 million Americans love to go fishing. Many people make it an important sporting venture in their lives, instead of other sports.

In Alabama, fishing represents a substantial impact on the state economy. Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent in this venture, and about 20,000 people list fishing as their source of livelihood. However, most people consider it as a form of relaxation and a family activity. In general, it is a lifestyle option.

In the book titled “Pavlov’s Trout: The Incomplete Psychology of Everyday Fishing;” psychologist Paul G. Quinnett dedicated an entire chapter about fishing as a source to relieve stress. In the chapter, “Ethics of Fishing” he points out that a person must appreciate and enjoy the benefits of nature. He also highlighted that fishing correctly is a way for an individual to become more disciplined in his lifestyle.

“Family Life First” is an organization dedicated to teaching parents ways to spend useful family time with their children. The factual data shows a 25 percent decrease in a child’s playing time over the past 20 years. Outdoor activities, where most children historically spend the majority of their playing time, also declined by 50 percent. From 1969 to 1996, family time activities dropped 22 percent. This was data comes from the study of the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

Any fruitful time to interact with your children is time well worth investing. Fishing is a great way to connect to your children. The quality time you both get from this endeavor is worth the effort. The experience you get by catching fish makes it wonderful to enjoy together, and that is the important part of fishing. There are many public fishing lakes, all of which have plenty of fish to catch. In this way, children can experience the excitement and adventure of fishing together with you. They will always remember the very first time they caught a fish, and the parent who showed them how to catch it. You will both gain enjoyment, as well as learning experiences from fishing. This is what makes fishing a great family activity.

As an example, Alabama promotes its lakes and open banks as places suited best for fishing. You don’t even need a boat to catch fish. There are also sporting goods stores, and specialized fishing stores, where you can find what you need for fishing.
Bringing your family with you, and spending time together enjoying the fun of fishing, is an ideal family activity to experience together.
